Some were abandoned during the last century, and the ruins of homes, mosques and forts are a there to witness how fast this country developed. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Doha, “Al-Khor and Zubarah Fort tour” is the perfect excursion for you. We will explore the fishing town of Al-Khor and Zubarah Fort, one of Qatar’s World Heritage Monuments our tour will also include the visit of Al-Jumail, village, a ghost town that offers a fascinating glimpse of fishermen life in the past.
After driving about an hour from the city of Doha, we will arrive in Al-Khor, where we will start our tour. Al-Khor, a famous center for the pearl industry. Its skyline is dominated by 3 watchtowers, some of which have been restored to their original appearance. The ancient settlements and towers of Al-Khor offer visitors a unique opportunity to learn about Qatar’s rich culture and history.
After our visit to this village, we will continue towards the discovery of Al-Zubarah Fortress which is a pristine example of a typical Arab fort, its one-meter-thick walls warded off invaders and helped keep rooms cold during the hot summer. The Al-Zubarah Fortress is part of the Al Zubarah Archaeological Site, a UNESCO World Heritage site, once a thriving pearl fishing and trading port, with an impressive city wall, ancient residential palaces and houses, markets, industrial areas, and mosques.
The tour also includes a visit to the fishermen’s village of Al-Jumail. This village is an abandoned pearling fishing village of the 19th century inhabited until the 20th century, prior to the economic boom that the petroleum and gas industry brought along.
